Skin Infections and Wet Fur Issues

The problem of wet fur and skin infections is very common in pets during the rainy season. While the fur stays damp, the fungus gets a chance to grow on it very easily. If not dried at the right time, it can cause some severe skin problems. You can notice bad smells, red patches, scabs or itching on the skin. As a best solution, drying them properly with a towel is very important. Make sure the towel is clean. You can also use an antifungal shampoo or a raincoat during walks.

Ear Infections 

In the wet seasons, most puppies with floppy ears suffer from ear infections. This is because the trapped moisture gets into their ears, thus forming a warm and wet area for the germs to breed. A few common signs are head shaking, bad smell, scratching, or excreta from the ears. To avoid this, softly clean the ears regularly. Do not let water get into the ears while taking a bath or going for long walks. Use a vet-recommended cloth and ear cleaner or use a soft cloth. Fleas, Ticks & Mites 

Fleas, ticks and mites are constantly growing in huge populations during the wet season. These pests are found to hide in tall grass, mud, or puddles. They get attracted to a dog’s body while they are playing in outdoor areas. These pests can get on their paws, area around the tail, neck, and ears. You can experience itching, hair loss, or red bumps in just a few minutes. As a solution, use vet-recommended flea and tick treatment products such as sprays, shampoos, or drops. Natural options such as a neem oil mask or even diluted apple cider vinegar can also work best. Make sure that your bedding and sleeping area are kept clean and dry. 

Digestive System Upset

Usually, wet weather leaves behind dirty surroundings and filthy water. They can drink from puddles and eat rotten food, leading to upset stomachs. This can cause vomiting, diarrhoea or dehydration. Always ensure you give fresh, clean water to a dog and store the food in a dry area. Monitor their feeding habits. If the symptoms take more than a day or if they feel very weak, visit a vet. Digestive problems may become much worse, especially if they concern a small or old breed. 

Respiratory Infections 

Dogs can also become cold like us during the wet or cold seasons. If your puppy is left wet for a long period or spends too much time sleeping in wet regions, it will develop a cough, a runny nose, or look sleepy. These are the symptoms of a respiratory infection. For the protection of your pet, never forget to dry them after any walk and ensure that your pet sleeps in a warm and dry place.
